Turkish Gulets, better known as “Caiques”, are traditional vessels and trawling boats used by Turkish seaside dwellers. From up close, they are reminiscent of the grand Ligurian and Sicilian fishing trawlers with which they share similar characteristics. They are ideal for cruising in total relaxation, boasting an excellent swell-handling capacity, large usable spaces both above and below deck, strong engines reliability and the unique aesthetics of days gone by. Caiques were originally unpretentious boats, built with inexpensive materials found in the region, mainly pinewood. They are normally 18 to 40 metres long, house between 4 and 8 cabins and can comfortably accommodate 4 to 16 guests. Today turkish boatyards build huge and magnificent caiques which have nothing to envy to the best motorsailers and motoryachts produced worldwide. Not many frivolities here, rather, the undisputed charm of vessels that better than most blend seamlessly with the suggestive landscapes of the Turkish coast. Though caiques are traditional Turkish boats, in past few years quite a number have been relocated to and operate from Greece, Croatia and Southern Italy. Go to page
